KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man is in custody after allegedly handing a Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy a bag of cocaine during a traffic stop.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Dajenvi Powe, 34, after he was allegedly driving erratically on U.S. 41 in Vincennes.
The sheriff’s office said Powe didn’t have a valid driver’s license, and a smoking device was on the center console inside the vehicle, leading the deputy to ask Powe to step out of the vehicle.
“When Mr. Powe got out of the vehicle, he pulled a plastic bag from his pocket and handed it to the deputy, telling him it was cocaine,” said KCSO.
A search was then conducted on the Powe’s vehicle. During that search, KCSO said deputies located a black case containing digital scales, one empty small clear bag and one large plastic bag of marijuana.
The bag of marijuana weighed approximately 37.7 grams, while the bag of cocaine Powe allegedly handed a deputy weighed 7.4 grams, according to the sheriff’s office.
Powe was then taken into custody and transferred to the Knox County Jail, where he was booked on charges of:
- Dealing in cocaine, more than three but less than 10 grams (a level 3 felony)
- Possession of cocaine, more than three grams (a level 5 felony)
- Dealing in marijuana (a class A misdemeanor)
KCSO said Powe was released from jail Sunday night after posting a $25,000 bond.
