TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The City of Terre Haute is warning the community of scam text messages that say the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket.
An image of one of these text messages is provided below:

The text message goes on to say that if the outstanding ticket is not paid by June 7, “the Indiana Department of Vehicles” will take the following actions.

The city said these messages are not sent from any court or clerk’s office, and Indiana does not have a Department of Vehicles, nor does the state send text messages concerning traffic tickets.
Individuals should not respond or click on the link included in the text message, said the City of Terre Haute.
