PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Voters in five precincts in Parke County are making their voices heard in a special election held on Tuesday.
Voters were asked to vote “Yes” or “No” regarding the increase of property taxes paid to the Southwest Parke Community School Corporation by homeowners and businesses.
The referendum mentions the political subdivision having the authority to issue bonds or enter into a lease to finance projects up to $10 million over 22 years. More specifically, the construction and equipping of an auxiliary gym at Riverton Parke Junior-Senior High School.
According to the sample ballot, if the public question is approved by the voters, the average property tax paid to the school corporation per year would increase by 14.2 percent.
