VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Election security is a top priority for the Vigo County Clerk’s Office as the 2020 election season gears up.
Election security has become a concern across the nation and Vigo County officials are doing what they can to protect voters from cyber attacks and the sharing of false information.
Just last year, Vigo County offices were part of a ransomware attack.
However, County Clerk Brad Newman said if it were to happen again, there would not be a threat to voter security.
“Number one, we’re in a closed network. So we’re not even exposed to hackers or anything like that. We set it up to where we’re not online. Number two, we’re participating in a pilot program with the Secretary of State’s office called Fire Eye Security, which doubles down on the security level of everything we do.” said Vigo County Clerk Brad Newman.
FBI special agents in Indianapolis are also zeroing in on election security.
They said they’ll be ready to address any problems that may occur.
