TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana State’s campus filled with support and celebration Saturday during the Relay4Autism Terre Haute event.
Relay4Autism included carnival games, face painting and music, along with sensory areas for attendees who may need a break.
A resource fair during the event allowed attendees to speak with vendors about local autism services and resources.
Organizers say one in every 59 children is diagnosed with autism. Relay4Autism brings understanding of those affected by autism and promotes the four key actions connected with the event: support, educate, advocate and love.
“What’s very interesting about autism is you will never meet the same person with autism. Each individual who has autism has different signs and symptoms that affects them differently from others, so it’s very hard to diagnose in that respect and what works for one individual with autism will not necessarily work for another individual with autism,” said Kelli Higgins with Autism Society of Indiana.
The event was free for all attendees.
