Ouabache Elementary School is taking part the nationwide “Rock Your School” program.
The school is giving each grade level a specific decade’s worth of music to create lessons around with the goal of bringing learning to life in a new way.
“I hope it shows the kids that even though you’re having fun, you’re actually learning,” said fifth grade teacher Christina Brown. “Because one of the things I tell my kids, We run on magic. Where you’re going to have to accept your failure. if you don’t complete something correctly, that’s fine. Don’t give up. But it also shows them in their stations that you don’t have to learn from a book to get what you need, and we are still teaching the standards. We are still staying with the pacing guide. We’re just kind of doing a hands-on approach.”
Last year, educators from over a thousand schools around the country.. Participated in “Rock Your School.”
Get Your Teach On, the sponsoring organization, received entries from schools in all 50 states, plus entries from Canada, Australia, the Cayman Islands, Honduras, Brazil, Norway and the UAE.
Artists Paul Stanley and Nick Lachey supported Rock Your School, hosted in 2018 at Laurence School in Los Angeles, California. In fact, 98 Degrees have filmed a video to help spread the word.
