TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV0 – Friday, the Wabash Valley Recovery Alliance held its first annual Blackout Addiction 5K.
The event held at Fairbanks Park included a 5K run, inspirational speakers, and music.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Wabash Valley Recovery Alliance and the new Wabash Valley Recovery Center in downtown Terre Haute.
Organizers of the 5K say they hope the event spreads awareness about an issue that is impacting the Valley.
“Substance use is such an issue in our community and getting together being able to fight the stigma that surrounds addiction, to have some fun, and raise some funds to be able to help people get into treatment,” said Christie Crowder, chairperson for Wabash Valley Recovery Alliance.
The Wabash Valley Recovery Center located at 619 Cherry Street will have an open house Friday, September 20th, from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M.
Crowder says the center will provide resources to those struggling with addiction.
Services at the center are free of charge.
