TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Fifth graders from the Vigo County School Corporation learned all about the environment Thursday with a trip to the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds.
They learned all about conservation and the environment.
Agriculture experts were there to teach the children about topics like livestock, recycling, food production, water quality and soil.
“They love the baby turkey and they love the animals, but they are also getting benefits from pollenators, information from our master gardeners, Purdue, from where our food comes from, so we try to get every aspect of the environment,” says Jan Came, the District Director of the Vigo County Soil and Water Conservation Office.
“They have to be able to apply the lessons or else they don’t sick, and so field trips like tehse are really important and it is a worthy investment for our school corporation to get them out with hands-on experience and we see it in the test scores,” says Bill Riley, Communications Director for the Vigo County School Corporation.
The field trip is made possible thanks to the Vigo County Soil and Water Conservation District.
