TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Monday night, the Vigo County School Board agreed to take action if needed against a company that has been cited in court documents connected with former VCSC Superintendent Danny Tanoos.
Tanoos is currently facing bribery charges.
The company, Energy Systems Group, is believed to have been improperly compensated for work done with the school corporation.
“The dollar amount that we were charged for the scope of work that was performed by ESG,” said VCSC Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth. “I don’t believe is consistent with what you would see in industry standards.”
The school corporation is reviewing contracts with ESG from 2000 and beyond.
“Looking at the percentage cost of each one of those projects. Comparing those projects to one another,” explained Haworth. “And then seeing what the consistencies or inconsistencies are.”
ESG was involved in nine contracts with the corporation from 2000 until 2016.
In all, the contracts total more than $42 million, $11 million of which was for ESG’s profit.
As of right now the school corporation does not have a timeline for settlement or litigation; however Haworth believes the corporation could receive hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“It depends upon where we see negotiations going. If progress is being made then you know you do not want to take that action if you can avoid it,” said Haworth. “And right now I would say negotiations are still very much in progress.”
