We have been notified that someone is calling asking for donations for the FOP and telling people that the Parke-Vermillion FOP has closed and disbanded,” Sheriff Mike Phelps said. “This appears to be a scam or at least untruthful.”
According to Phelps, the Parke-Vermillion FOP is active in both counties and has members from both sheriff’s offices, Clinton and Rockville police departments and most of the town marshal’s in both counties. The FOP also includes some Indiana State Police officers and officers from surrounding agencies in Marion County.
“The Parke-Vermillion FOP does NOT solicit donations by phone, EVER, but we do rely on donations from citizens and businesses in Parke and Vermillion Counties,” Phelps wrote in a press release. “All funds are used for Cops and Kids activities such as youth sports, scholarships and the Cops and Kids Christmas program (formerly called Shop with a Cop).”
Donation checks should be made out to Parke-Vermillion FOP #167 and mailed to Parke-Vermillion FOP #167, P.O. Box 193, Rockville, IN 47872.
