The Breakfast Optimist Club chose Monroe as its Firefighter of the Year.
According to Fire Chief Jeff Fisher, the award is given to a firefighter who goes above and beyond the call of duty.
“The Breakfast Optimist Club is a club that gives back to the kids of our community, and we started this award 17 years ago,” said Fisher. “It was started by a member of the club, Bill Hawke. We recognize a member of law enforcement and firefighter.”
