“I thought we needed to do this, some of the council persons were getting positive, some were getting negative impact from people,” said John Trefz, mayor of City of Marshall.
During Monday’s meeting, a majority of those in the room spoke in favor of allowing the sale of marijuana in Marshall. Some say the economic benefits make sense.
There were also others who say they are worried about marijuana being accessible in their community.
After hearing from those in community, Trefz says he understands both arguments for and against allowing marijuana shops in Marshall.
“I see the medical side, absolutely. Being an old-time cop I see the negative side, but times change,” Trefz said.
Trefz says in the next few months members of the Marshall City Council have an important decision on their hands.
“It’s one of those things that each one of these eight people that are elected up here are going to have to do their research, as am I,” Trefz said.
Mayor Trefz says a decision will be made before January 1st but he does expect to have more public hearings before that time.
Trefz would only vote in the matter if City Council tied during their vote.
