“The definition is 500 employees or less. So, that sounds huge in a community like ours,” said Courtney Richey with the West Central Indiana Business Development Center.
Several businesses lined the halls of the Meadows Shopping Center in Terre Haute for small business Saturday.
“We definitely wanted to be here because it’s great to be here and be with all these other businesses,” said business owner Tonya Goff.
According to Courtney Richey, small businesses play a big part in Terre Haute’s local economy.
“Every dollar you spend on anything, $.67 of that stays in our local community. They’re the ones creating jobs,” she said. For small business owners themselves, they say it creates an opportunity to find purpose and fulfillment.
“I just needed to have a reason to get up and a reason to go to bed. I had to have something to do. I’ve been so busy all my life that I just had to do something,” said business owner, Nancy Selsam.
For shoppers, Small business Saturday is another chance to get ahead of their holiday shopping.
“We have deals and giveaways here today from Greencastle, Rockville, Terre Haute. Again, we look at it as a region. If we grow Terre Haute, we grow as a region. So we’re supporting all around the West Central community,” Richey said.
The West Central Indiana Business Development Center is available to those looking to start their own business.
