TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — New details are being released in the shooting death of Evan Pershing last Friday.
Durend Randall is facing several charges, including murder and aggravated battery, stemming from the Nov. 8 incident on Heritage Lane in Terre Haute. He made his first court appearance Friday.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a second victim, Antwane Randall told police he had struggled with Durend over a gun before it went off and hit Antwane in the hand and leg.
Reports from Lameeka Williams, who took Antwane to the hospital that morning, said that Durend shot Pershing several times in the chest and abdomen.
Williams and Antwane initially told police the shooting had happened at a bar. They later admitted that is what Durend had instructed them to say.
The affadavit goes on to say that Durend struggled with police during the arrest, and tried to pull a handgun from his pocket.
There were three children reportedly in the home at the time of the shooting, although none were harmed.
A jury trial date has been scheduled for May 11, 2020, and Durend will remain in jail without bond due to the murder charge.
