Graduates of Garfield High School in Terre Haute, are working on a special monument project to memorialize their time at the school.
Garfield High School opened it’s doors to students in 1921, and closed in 1971.
Alumni have yet to forget Garfield High, and adorned the former site with it’s current monument.
The Purple Eagles Board is raising funds to enhance the current monument with a Purple Eagles Plaza.
This in hopes of paying tribute to the many great students who graduated over the years, one of whom became an Olympic gold medalist.
“We wanna honor those people and teachers. And anybody who worked for Garfield School,” said Chairwoman Susan Mardis. “We have Dr. Terry Dischinger here our honorary Chairman today. Who is a very accomplished student athlete. He was a leader at Garfield High School in basketball, and he played other sports.”
According to Mardis other school’s had the goal of 100,000 dollars for monument projects, and the board is unsure of how much they will need to raise at this time.
