EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – A two-vehicle accident Saturday on I-70 westbound in Effingham Co. sent multiple people to the hospital with injuries.
According to an Illinois State Police press release, preliminary investigation indicates that one of the vehicles was traveling westbound on 1-70 at milepost 80 in the left lane when a second vehicle rear ended the first vehicle.
Unit 2 consisted of a rental vehicle containing a family of seven. Three family members from Unit 2 were transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital by Abbot Emergency Medical Services, while four remaining passengers self-transported to St. Anthony’s for examination and were released.
Unit 1 consisted of a private security prisoner transport van consisting of two guards and four prisoners. Those six people were treated on scene and released.
The driver of Unit 2 was charged with failure to reduce speed and following too closely.
The driver of Unit 1 was charged with improper use of the left lane.
