SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Two teams of high school students are facing off in the Student Field Sculpture Wars.
It’s an event in Sullivan County, involving teams from Sullivan High School and The Master’s Class.
The teams get 100 by 100 square foot areas of uncut grass in city and county parks.
Then they use a lawn mower to cut images that will be visible from drones and airplanes.
“Basically what I’ve learned is that you can take anything that you draw down and put it into real life images,” says Master’s Class student William Sears.
Fellow classmate Zack Hunter says, “when we first started it was kind of difficult, but when we got the hang of it, then it went pretty good.”
“They’re doing something they weren’t sure they could do, so they’re getting accomplishment out of it. They’re seeing art in a new kind of way. They’re getting outside and they’re doing something with the commuity. There’s a lot they’re getting out of it,” says project manager Curt Buethe.
The winning team will receive a trophy and plaque to be displayed at school.
Judging will take place during the Sullivan County Airport’s Aviation Days on June 1.
