PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A wreck in Putnam County sends two people to the hospital and shuts down a major interstate for almost an hour.
The crash happened Tuesday afternoon in the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 48.
Indiana State Police say INDOT workers were doing routine maintenance work on the shoulder when a pickup truck left its lane and hit the back of the INDOT vehicle, flipping it onto its top.
State Police say the driver of the pickup truck and a passenger were airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. An INDOT spokeswoman says four INDOT workers were transported to hospitals by ambulance.
Both the westbound and eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for more than 45 minutes as emergency crews worked the scene.
