The event included a dog walk, face painting, and a dog costume contest.
The fundraiser was designed to help pay expenses for the school’s new therapy dog named Charlee Jo.
According to the school’s counselor, Meghan Olds, Charlee Jo will serve as a calming effect for students going through emotional situations.
“If they’re sad about something that has happened in their lives, that dog is going to be an emotional support for them. It’s going to be a safe place. Someone they can just talk to, read to, pet, love on, and they don’t have to worry about being accepted. It’s just going to love them back,” Olds said.
In addition to the fundraiser, the school received a $2,500 grant for Charlee Jo.
Olds says Charlee Jo will begin at Hoosier Prairie Elementary during the upcoming school year.
