LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Linton Freedom Festival Parade is a time old tradition in Greene County.
Dating back all the way to 1905, it’s been named Indiana’s biggest Independence Day parade.
Back in 1905 floats weren’t’ the only entries in the iconic parade.
“It was like a parade combined with like a circus,” said parade director Ralph Witty. “They had circus animals in the parade and so fourth.”
Being Indiana’s largest Fourth of July parade, people come in from all over.
“We actually don’t have large parades like this by us, we’re from Pennsylvania,” said parade goer Ann Heffelfinger. “So this is very exciting and Grandpa was very excited to share this with us.”
With 128 entries in the parade, floats, service members and of course candy flooded the streets.
Residents in Linton are proud of their parade and all it represents on this Independence Day.
“The streets are full come parade time and it seems like everyone looks forward to it,” said Witty.
