CARLISLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Farmers are still facing challenges with this year’s planting season because of the rains.
Local farmer Lance Unger, spoke about his struggles and frustrations with having to plant his family’s crops with all of the rain.
During a typical planting season, most farms would be done planting by now.
A few of the Unger family’s fields had to be replanted several times due to the rains.
Unger said they had to make a lot of difficult decisions when it came to their crops, especially when those decisions meant more money.
Lance Unger said, “Although we do say we want dry weather, we’ve hurt this crop so much now it doesn’t have much of a root system. So if it does turn off on days like today where its really hot and really dry, it is going to hurt us just as much as this water has already.”
They expect harvest season to last longer than normal as well.
