CRAWFORD CO., Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Authorities believe they have found a canoe belonging to a missing Sullivan County man last seen in Crawford County, Illinois.
The man, who has not yet been identified, began his canoe trip on the Wabash River in Hutsonville, Illinois Sunday. He was last seen in the Merom area. Authorities from both Illinois and Indiana searched the area until dark Sunday, and resumed efforts Monday morning.
According to Chief Deputy Douglas Slater of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, the canoe was found on an embankment with a campsite nearby.
Authorities are currently attempting to make contact with the person using the campsite to see if it is the missing man.
