TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Holocaust survivor and Terre Haute resident, Walter Sommers, celebrated 99 years of life with a party on Saturday.
The special celebration was put on by Temple Israel: United Hebrew Congregation and held at Westminster Village.
Sommers was a survivor of the concentration camps, and a long-time friend of the late Eva Kor.
Sommers was surrounded by family and friends at his party and he said he’s continuing to live to the fullest.
“I’m enjoying life, to the best of my ability. I still to volunteer work at the Candles Museum. The key is to stay active,” Sommers said.
Sommers’ birthday is December 29.
