TERRE HAUTE, Ind., (WTWO/WAWV)– The Sisters of Providence plan to be intentional in their continued fight for justice in the upcoming year.
According to Sister Barbara Battista, Justice Promoter, they hope to bring awareness to the needs of others across the world through intentional prayer.
“Jesus and the Christ continue to be birthed through all of us. Every time we celebrate Christmas mass. Every time we come together to celebrate christmas, which is a whole season, we are really celebrating that we are birthing God. We are bringing God present into our world,” said Battista.
The sisters advocate for issues such as executions at the state and federal level.
“We especially lift up the needs of the human community. The dire need for justice and the dire need for forgiveness and reconciliation. The fact that we as a nation sanction these executions, sanction killing is such a terrible injustice,” Battista said.
They also advocate for those that are affected by environmental issues as well says General Officer, Sister Jeanne Hagelskamp.
“We know that that justice work about the environment, disportionately affects those who are vulnerable. Those that live in areas that are prone to climate disasters, those who are refugees because of climate disasters,” said Hagelskamp.
They urge people to notice the bigger picture, which Battista calls, “respect for human dignity.”
“We’re in the midst of a campaign season right now and to encourage persons to vote their values,” Battista said.
The Sisters of Providence also focus their attention on issues such as the controversy around the southern border and racial injustices.
