Dan Bennett, Vigo County Highway Department superintendent, says as winter weather began on Sunday as many as 20 trucks were on the roads removing snow.
Bennett says during Monday afternoon crews were finishing up some touch up work, which included removing snow from subdivisions.
As snow falls throughout the night Bennett says Vigo County residents can expect much of the same.
Crews are on 12 hour shifts with 20 trucks going out, this will include salting and sanding the roads.
Bennett says although the Vigo County Highway Dept. is doing what they can to make the roads safe, he still encourages drivers to use caution.
“You want to keep your speed under control because certain sections of the county, the snow routes will meet. You might drive on 3 or 4 miles of good road and all at once hit another guy’s route and if he’s late on that route, you’re going to be in some slick situations,” Bennett said.
Bennett says with crews being out on Sunday that some salt and sand was already on the roads which benefits his department as they go out Monday.
The highway department asks that drivers express caution near snow plows.
