Shakamak Elementary is in the middle of a hygiene drive.
We talked with school counselor Mallory Reed who says this is the third year she’s collected hygiene items, but it’s the school’s first drive.
Students have brought in items this week for the chance to win a donut party, but the impact goes a long way.
Many students at Shakamak Elementary are low income and are in need.
I wanted the kids to be able to come to me or come to any teacher and say, ‘hey I need this at home’ and they don’t have anything to worry about, that they can come here and get whatever they need. We don’t want them to have any worries and just focus on their academics.”

The drive lasts until Friday, but items are welcome anytime.
The school is looking for deodorant especially, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Face wash and wash cloths are also welcome.
