INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man was recognize as a 2025 Indiana Living Legend during the Indiana Historical Society’s annual gala on Friday night.
Greg Gibson, a local businessman and philanthropist is well-known for his deep-rooted commitment to the Wabash Valley. Surrounded by his family and friends, he was recognized on Friday night at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center in Indianapolis.
“I’m truly honored to accept this award and even more thrilled to share it with such remarkable company,” Gibson said. “My parents instilled in me the importance of giving back and making a quiet, meaningful impact. While this award reflects the efforts of many, I’m deeply grateful to be recognized.”
Gibson, a graduate from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has served on the board of his alma-mater for more than 30 years. Also, he has championed education and athletics at Indiana State University, donated land for the Terre Haute Convention Center, and helped develop the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. As chair of the Hospice of the Wabash Valley board, he helped lead the creation of The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care — the only inpatient hospice facility of its kind in the community.
“The Indiana Historical Society plays such an important role in preserving and sharing the stories that shape who we are as a state,” Gibson added. “Their work ensures that our history isn’t just remembered, but learned from and celebrated. To receive this recognition from an organization so deeply committed to honoring Indiana’s past is truly meaningful to me.”
Along with Gibson’s family and friends, he celebrated his recognition as one of Indiana’s Living Legends with another legend, Larry “Legend” Bird. Their friendship dates back to the late 1970s, when Bird, then a standout player at Indiana State University, worked summer jobs through Gibson’s father. That connection formed has grown into a lifelong friendship.
