TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Ivy Tech and Saturn Petcare held a signing to welcome four new members to their Industrial Technology Apprenticeship program. They also celebrated the first two people to ever complete the program.
It took place at the Ivy Tech Center for Workforce Development in southern Vigo County. This program will allow apprentices to get hands-on experience by working at Saturn Petcare, all while going to school at Ivy Tech to earn an associate’s degree.
After completing the first year of the program, apprentices will earn a certificate. The apprentices will also not have to pay any tuition while in this program, which takes three years to complete.
Ivy Tech and Saturn Petcare both agree that a collaboration like this is very important for people in the area and can be life-changing for the people who join the program.
“Next year for them is gonna be going to school half the day, working half the day,” Maintenance Systems Supervisor at Saturn Petcare, Marc Otto, said. “Really having a collaboration between the classroom environment and a working environment to give them the hands-on skills along with the education.”
“They are obviously being proactive in trying to help our workforce,” Dean of the School of AMEAS Molly Joseph said. “By offering these opportunities to our students. I mean, honestly, this is a life-changing event for some students, so it’s great that students are getting their schooling paid for, and then they are guaranteed a full-time position after this.”
