PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Paris woman found unresponsive in Chrisman Saturday died of exposure, according to Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett.
Neva A. Martin, 45, was discovered outside a friend’s home in rural Chrisman.
The friend told authorities Martin was at his home Friday night and had left around midnight to return to Paris. When he woke up the next morning, he discovered her in his yard. She was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy was performed Monday morning by Bloomington Forensic Pathologist Dr. Scott Denton, M.D.
Barrett Wednesday ruled the cause of death as hypothermia due to cold weather exposure.
A toxicology report is still pending, Barrett said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, the Edgar County Coroner and the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department.
