Several alumni of Garfield High attended the event to show their support. Olympian Dr. Greg Bell was among the alumni in attendance.
Bell attended Garfield High before attending Indiana University. He went on to achieve a gold medal in Long Jump in the 1956 Olympics.
Bell spoke at the event and shared his success story, as it connected to Garfield High. He also shared advice for the younger generation.
“Find something that you like doing. Something that you’re good at and work at it. Work at it until it becomes commonplace to you because anything worth while is worth working at. There so many people and you know some of the young people, that I’m referring to,” Bell said.
Bell was inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1988.
