VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County School Corporation used a snow day Tuesday in support of Red for Ed Action Day.
Two local programs did their part to keep students busy.
Camp Navigate saw it as a time to keep students busy.
“We thought the parents would need help. We wanted to support our teachers and our school corporation. And most importantly give the kids a fun and safe place just to hang out for the day,” said Camp Navigate Co-Founder Eleanor Ramseier.
The Vigo County YMCA was also glad to lend a helping hand.
“We’re excited to be able to help for a day like today. We had enough time to plan it and have our awesome staff here to help out with the kids. So we’re just excited to be able to be here in support of the teachers, the school corporation and the parents,” said Ali Weber of the YMCA.
At Camp Navigate, the students made cards, thanking their teachers for all they do.
Over at the YMCA, students enjoyed free play time and other planned activities.
Both programs said working with students on Red for Ed Day is a their way of showing teacher appreciation.
“We see the work that they put into it and we want to work as a partnership with the teachers,” said Ramseier.
More than 50 students participated in both camps.
