CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — South Vermillion Schools went on a temporary lockdown Tuesday afternoon at the request of the Vermillion County Sheriff.
Sheriff Mike Phelps said the lockdown was a precaution as they attempted an arrest on an armed and wanted man in the Saint Bernice area.
” It was close to the time that the South Vermillion schools would be releasing students from the schools and then buses would be dropping them off in that area,” Phelps said in a news release. “We asked for the schools to lock down and not allow the students to be delivered until we found the individual.”
Phelps said the man was located around 10 to 15 minutes later and taken into custody. A loaded handgun and several knives were retrieved during the arrest.
This is a developing story. Continuing following WTWO/WAWV both on air and online for updates.
