VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Board of Elections said they expect a record-breaking election year and are in need of 200 or more more election workers to prepare for it.
The board met Friday morning to discuss their plans for both the primary and general elections taking place later this year.
Board president Kara Anderson said members look back at the trends of each election year to determine what changes need to be made.
In Vigo County there were two 28-day voting centers during the last election and a number of centers across the county that they will need workers for.
Anderson said election workers are paid $12 an hour and receive training.
“With trying to make, perhaps, bigger vote centers, more early vote centers, we’re gonna need more bodies to man that. And that’s where we are asking the community, anyone that’s wanting to get involved, to contact voter registration or contact the clerk’s office,” Anderson said.
Those interested in working at vote centers, must contact voter registration or the clerk’s office by March.
