VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man who crashed his pickup into 4 feet of water Monday night is facing charges for driving under the influence and battery of a public safety official.
Gerard Dunn, 58, of Independence, Missouri, told authorities he was moving to Delaware, and his GPS had led him down the road and into the pond near Southlake Road.
Deputies with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department noticed Dunn exhibiting signs of intoxication such as red, watery eyes and slurred speech. He submitted to a preliminary breath test that showed a .130 blood alcohol content.
He was transported to a nearby hospital for a blood test; however, once at the hospital he refused, calling the test “illegal.” Deputies waited with Dunn at the hospital for medical clearance.
While at hospital, Dunn allegedly became aggressive with law enforcement, and at one point kicked a deputy in the shin.
Dunn was eventually transported to the Vigo County Jail where he was later released by the court.
