TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Having been listed among the best colleges in the nation on the Wall Street Journal’s 2024 Best Colleges in America guide, Rose-Hulman’s Institute of Technology stands out in the community.
After surveys were conducted by the Wall Street Journal and the Princeton Review along with other college guides, Rose-Hulman ranked 17th on the list of 20 colleges with Princeton, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, and Harvard topping the list.
In the subcategories listed on the Wall Street Journal’s 2024 Best College in America guide Rose-Hulman was placed at the number one ranking in both learning facilities and learning opportunities, with students specifically noting engagement with faculty, partnership with other students, campus resources, and satisfaction with teaching spaces and classrooms. The college also ranked second in the nation when determining if current students would recommend the college to others, and earned fourth place in career preparation.
In the Princeton Review’s Best 389 Colleges guide, Rose-Hulman was ranked in the number one spot for internships, while being in the top 10 for career placement and career services. Rose-Hulman was also listed among the Best Value Colleges, Best Midwest Colleges, and Best Green Colleges.

Coons said in response to the recent rankings. “Our internship and co-op program provides our students with the opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience and build professional connections. By their junior year, 90% of our students have had at least one internship, co-op, or research experience. Our impressive placement rate of over 98% for the entire graduating class has been consistent for the last two decades,” Coons continued.
The Wall Street Journal documented specific student experiences like that of senior chemical engineering major Courtney Valmore. Having opportunities through Rose-Hulman like summer internships with Procter & Gamble, Eli Lilly and Company, and Endress+Hauser, along with building solid relationships with faculty, staff, and alumni, and participating in student organizations, Valmore is ready for her career.
“It’s been a lot of hard work, but Rose-Hulman has set me up for the future, and I’m not the only student who can attest to that fact. Coming here (from Indianapolis) has been everything that I thought it would be,” said Valmore, who is a Noblitt Scholar who is serving her third year as Student Government Association president. “Rose-Hulman is so accommodating to its students. They want to see them succeed.”
