TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A woman accused of setting off fireworks in a Terre Haute apartment complex said she did it on a “dare.”
Elizabeth S. Moore was arrested Thursday and charged with arson and crimimal recklessness in reference to the explosion that occurred at 821 N. 13th St. on April 3, 2019.
Moore is being held on $25,000 bond and will appear in court on May 15.
According to court records, investigators asked Moore about rumors she was upset that her boyfriend was cheating on her with another female inside the building. Moore admitted she was upset about the rumors, but said she was more upset about drug use and other criminal activity occurring in the apartment complex.
She said she was “dared” to put the large explosive firework inside the building and ignite it. Court records also indicate Moore said she was “surprised” by the extent of the damage the firework caused.
When authorities arrived on scene at the site of the explosion in April, they found the door of the apartment complex had been blown apart and there was damage to the entryway, walls and floor. The damage was enough to make the complex unlivable.
Moore is being held on $25,000 bond and will appear in court on May 15.
