TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A new manufacturing plant is set to open in Terre Haute at the end of June, and with it comes the promise of jobs for several local workers.

“It’s hopeful, but it’s still tentative.”
That’s the answer local Teddy Olson gave to a question about the mindset surrounding jobs in Terre Haute. That mindset may lean more toward hopeful with the addition of a Pyrolyx plant on the north side of town that’s slated to bring 55 jobs to the area.
“It’s always nice to announce, to be like yeah we have a new thousand job plant or something like that, but I’ve always said we’ll take the 50-100 to 200 job projects all day long,” said TH Economic Development Corporation President Steve Witt.
Pyrolyx is an industry leader in the process of converting tires into raw materials.
“They extract carbon black oil and the metal from the shredded rubber and they sell those by-products to customers,” said Witt.
Witt says Pyrolyx is an attractive employer, with quality pay and employee benefits, and also a process that benefits the environment.
“It’s a very environmentally friendly process, it’s recycling tires, keeping tires out of landfills and things like that,” said Witt.
Witt says Terre Haute is in turn an attractive landing spot for the German manufacturer’s new plant.
“They selected Terre Haute due to the good geographic location not only to their raw materials, shredded rubber, but customers as well,” said Witt.
Olson says this plant is just another step in the right direction for Terre Haute’s mindset around jobs.
“You establish a manufacturing plant, people have jobs, people are more optimistic, they think things are getting better,” said Olson.

Pyrolyx is considering the construction of a second building of comparable size on the same site as the first, although there wouldn’t be as many jobs available at the second building due to overlap in managerial and maintenence staffs.
