TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Wednesday, many voiced their opinion regarding the impeachment vote for President Trump, this includes local lawmakers.
“When Congress disagrees, we have at times taken those questions of executive authority or privilege to our third branch of government: The courts. But the Democrats haven’t even given President Trump an opportunity to defend his executive privilege through the courts and they’re demanding that he just give up his constitutional powers under Article II.”
said, Rep. John Shimkus (R- IL 15th District)
“We need four Republican senators to stand up for a real impeachment trial in the Senate where we carefully consider the evidence. This is our constitutional responsibility.”
said Senator Dick Durbin on social media (D- Illinois)
“When the Nixon impeachment process started. I don’t remember that there was such an interest in finding something wrong before it actually occurred”
said Senator Mike Braun (R- Indiana)
“The Democrats are doing a partisan vote. They’ve not proven their case and honestly, even Speaker Pelosi said they’ve spent the last two and a half years with this process trying to find a reason to impeach the President,”
said Rep. Larry Buchson (R- IN 8th District)
Bucshon voted against President Trump’s impeachment.
Shimkus was not able to be present for Wednesday’s vote due to a family matter.
We reached out to both Indiana Senator Todd Young and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth, and have not heard back at this time.
