FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Duke Energy Manager Rick Burger provided an update around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday explaining that as of 4:30 p.m., there are still around 2,500 customers without power. Duke Energy also has about 1,000 resources including linemen, engineers, assessors, and other crew members out working to restore the power.
Burger also noted that Duke Energy will keep working until everyone’s power is restored and that the goal is to get everyone who lost power in Thursday’s storm restored by 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Again, there have been additional outages that took place after the storms and will be restored once the outages caused by Thursday’s storms are repaired.
Original: Power restoration efforts continue throughout the area as linemen from multiple companies have descended on the Wabash Valley to assist electric companies as they work to get power back to hundreds of customers following last week’s derecho storm.
Tuesday morning as of 10:40 a.m., Duke Energy reports a total of 6,470 customers without power across the state. Most of those are in the Terre Haute area.

“We feel good, we’ve got over 650 line workers on the ground now. As we clean up Clinton and Greencastle, all those resources will be moved to Terre Haute,” Duke Energy District Manager Rick Burger said. “We encourage people who have not called in to report an outage, to please do so. If you’ve called, we have it recorded in the system and will get to it as soon as we can.”
Burger said the company is hoping to have all of the outages that originated with last Thursday’s storms to be restored by 6 p.m. this evening.
“Of course, there will be some that remain offline, but those are mostly new tickets that have been filed after the initial storm outages,” Burger added.
WIN Energy REMC reports that as of Tuesday morning, just 750 customers remain without power. According to WIN Chief Operating Officer Leslie Beard, crews are continuing to work through the holiday Tuesday to restore power to the remaining customers.
“Crews have the goal of getting power restored to the majority of members by Wednesday at midnight,” Beard said. “We continue to encourage members to make long-term provisions and check on family and friends. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our members as restoration efforts continue.”
