TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local camp is once again giving children with communication needs a fun learning opportunity.
Camp Bruce is offered for children who are not able to communicate as effectively without an aid or tool. Speech pathology grad students from Indiana State University work with the kids while at camp. This year’s theme is literacy and aims to give the children reading practice.
The campers also get to try different forms of communication such as electronic communication devices. One parent says her child really enjoys Camp Bruce.
“It’s been great, she loves it. I don’t know if it’s just because she gets to hang out with kids who are like her or because she’s enjoying the AAC device. She definitely does enjoy learning on the device and being able to say her name,” explained Meighan Graham, a local parent.
The children also got to take part in fun activities like bowling while at the camp.
