WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sugar Creek Fire Department was called to a two story house fire shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.
The house was located on north 8th street in West Terre Haute. The house was believed to be vacant and no occupants were in the home when the fire stated. Two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and one was treated for a minor electrical shock. They are expected to recover quickly and return to work sometime tonight.
Fire Chief Deputy Michael Stewart said they are not sure what caused the fire.
“We know it started in the back of the residence, on the first floor and did make its way up through the second floor and attic area. The home did have electricity so we will be looking at that seeing that was what potentially what caused it,” Stewart said.
This is an active investigation.
