(WTWO/WAWV)– Booklovers around the Wabash Valley are making their way to the Sisters of Providence building this weekend, for the return of the annual winter used book sale.
Ryan Sheehy, one of the organizers for the event, said the Sisters of Providence have been accepting donations for six months– or since the finish of the summer book sale. The books aren’t priced, and are available for a freewill donation of the buyer’s choosing.
“Sisters of Providence are founded on education and knowledge, plus they are all about sustainability, Sheehy said. “A lot of these books might otherwise end up in a landfill, but by donating them to the Sisters of Providence and making them available to people, they get to share that knowledge with other people.”
The event, which runs through Monday, includes hundreds of different books of all genres, according to Sheehy.
“It’s a lot of work,” he said. “It takes a lot of volunteers to get the books all out of the boxes and sorted. We have cookbooks, we have children’s books, hard-cover and soft-cover novels and of course a lot of religion and spirituality books that are donated by people in the community.”
It’s one of two used book sales the organization hosts each year– with the aforementioned summer book sale lasting over a week, and starting in late July. Leftover books are donated to Wabash Valley Goodwill.
