For 43 years, the George Rogers Clark National Park has hosted a very special rendevous in the spirit of the city’s history.
“It’s a long proud tradition here in Vincennes,” said Chief Ranger Joe Herron.
The Spirit of Vincennes attracts people from all over.
Many volunteers use this event to get in touch with their roots.
“Knowing the history of the place you live makes you appreciate what it is now even more,” said volunteer Adam Clark.
Voluneers dress the part, play the part, and even battle like it’s 1732.
“Part of it is trying to get as close to period as we can, within reason,” said Herron. “We want the authentisity. It kind of re-inforces the story.”
Clark has been re-living history for 20 years.
He’s fought in battles, taught young soldiers how to use a muskit, and told stories of old to listening audiences.
“It’s just incredible to feel a small percentage of what they would have gone through,” he said.
Re-enactments aren’t the only activities at the event.
George Rogers Clark Park is full of food and craft vendors and the entertainment will continue tomorrow from ten am to five pm.
