Due to heavy rains over the past few weeks, the Griffin Bike Park has been closed due to unsafe trails.
But the facility remains open for a particular reptile.
According to park manager Rich Moore, turtles are being found all over the trails.
Moore says members from the Vigo County 4-H have come in to help re-route trails around the turtles in order to keep them safe.
“The turtles are just cool. Because the places that they’re laying eggs are quite a ways from water. Which is really shocking,” said Moore. “So the ones that we’ve went around have been like on top of hills and the water is way down on the bottom of the hill. So we just think it’s pretty cool to have all that different wildlife out there with us.”
In addition to turtles in the park, keep a look out for turtles on the roads.
If you decide to save a turtle on the road, officials encourage you to pull over with your flashers on and continue to move the turtle in the direction it’s headed.
