INDIANAPOLIS — A student has been arrested after intentionally setting a fire in the boy’s bathroom Wednesday morning.
Lawrence North High School officials say the fire started in a second-story boy’s bathroom on the north side of the school. Students were safely evacuated from the school.
The Indianapolis Fire Department said the fire happened in a trash can, with the fire originating in a paper tower dispenser. They responded to the fire around 11:38 a.m. Wednesday and the fire was out at 11:46 a.m.
Lawrence North High School officials say the student responsible for the fire has been identified and arrested.
There was residual smoke and water in the second-floor hallway. Buses went to the school to pick up students and take them home. Parents were also able to pick their students up from the south side of the building.

Parents/Guardians, thank you for following the plan as you were too pulled away from important events as a result of this incident. Last, our Transportation Department deserves high praise as they deployed their crisis plan within an hour and had drivers on-site to help our students get home safely. Teamwork is so important at times like this and the Lawrence North/Lawrence Township TEAM did great work today.

School officials say the building is being cleaned and there will be school Thursday. Evening activities will also continue as planned, but parts of the building will be closed.
