TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A power company is building a multi-million dollar project that it says will improve the reliability of its service in West Terre Haute.
Duke Energy is investing $2,000,000 dollars in a new substation located near Gannon Road and US 150.
The Duke Energy District Manager Rick Burger said the current substation in the area was built in the early 1960s and has served its time.
“Like roads and bridges in our country, energy companies are the same way, built back in the 40s or 50s and if we don’t make investments in them today it could really hurt reliability for tomorrow.”
He says the new substation will be much more reliable.
“This will be radio-controlled from our corporate office,” said Burger.
Burger says the hope is to have the new substation in service by June of 2023.
