DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A community celebration of life is planned for a 10-year-old Odon, Indiana girl who died unexpectedly last week.
Everly Kate Montgomery was a soon-to-be 4th grader at North Daviess Elementary when a tragic accident caused her death. Everly’s mother is a teacher at the school, according to a statement released by North Daviess Community Schools on Facebook.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of our elementary teacher, Mrs. Montgomery, whose daughter Everly passed away following a tragic accident on Friday. Everly was an incoming fourth grader at ND Elementary. Please continue to pray for comfort and peace for her entire family.
According to a report by a newspaper in the area, Montgomery died after falling at the Garden of the Gods at the Shawnee National Forest. Jackson County Coroner Dr. Tom Kupferer said she had been hiking with her family when Montgomery fell about 100 feet. She was flown to a hospital where she later died.
North Daviess Elementary Principal, Renee Judy, said that grief counselors will be available to students at the school all this week. The school also modified its logo in memory of Montgomery.
An obituary for Montgomery stated that she was an active student involved in numerous sports and clubs, and loved riding her bicycle to the local library. Due to her love of reading, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Odon Winklepleck Library.
Community members have planned a celebration of life for Montgomery to be held Sunday, August 7 at Odon Park starting at 6:30 p.m.
