TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An area ROTC program has been recognized as the best in its region with the prestigious MacArthur Award.
Rose-Hulman’s Army Reserved Officers’ Training Corps unit has earned this year’s MacArthur Award as the top program in the military’s 7th Brigade, a region that covers 38 universities and colleges in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, and Tennessee.
Some of the reasons Rose-Hulman’s ROTC program was recognized:
- Commissioning 35 officers, Exceeding the 19-officer requirement.
- Six cadets being ranked in the top 20% nationally and earned distinguished military graduate honors
- 24 cadets exceeded performance averages in areas of physical fitness, written land navigation, practical land navigation, weapons qualifications, and tactical performance evaluations during last summer’s training exercises.
- 98% retention rate of students enrolled in the program from 2020 to 2021
Rose-Hulman is part of the Army ROTC`s Wabash Battalion with Indiana State University, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, DePauw University, Vincennes University, University of Southern Indiana, and University of Evansville.
The institute’s ROTC unit also was selected to be the Army ROTC’s candidate for the overall Department of Defense ROTC and Partner Institution Excellence Award.
