UPDATE: Power has been restored to all affected properties as of 6:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Duke Energy spokesman Rick Burger said some old wires had burned and caused the outages.
He said Duke Energy has been replacing the old underground wiring network in Terre Haute for a year and a half.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Properties along Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute from 7th Street to the courthouse have been impacted by power outages resulting from underground fires, according to Terre Haute police.
According to Duke Energy spokesman Rick Burger, the incident happened in the area behind Old National Bank on Wabash Ave. Crews are currently working near 7th St and Ohio Ave.
Burger said the power to that area may not be restored until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. EST on Friday.
“The outages may affect locations along this route north to Cherry Street and south to Ohio Street,” according to a police social media post. “Duke Energy has informed us that this outage is likely not going to be resolved quickly. We will pass along more information when we receive it and will increase our presence in this area.”
