TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Friday, a local nurse’s heroic efforts were recognized by the American Red Cross.
Amy Holmes, a resident of Marshall, Illinois, received the American Red Cross Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action.
In 2009, Holmes saved a man’s life at a local gym after he suffered from a cardiac emergency, which completely stopped his heart.
Holmes performed chest compressions and an AED shock, which resulted in the man surviving.
Holmes says although her actions possibly saved a life, she was surprised to be honored by the Red Cross.
“I don’t think I did as much as anyone else. I put an AED on and the AED worked like it said it’s supposed to. It told me to do CPR, so I did. It said to shock, so I did. So, it worked out,” Holmes said.
Holmes is now close to the family of the man she assisted.
She’s even the godmother of the man’s daughter she helped rescue.
